The Mourinho Factor

As the new season draws closer im pondering on what impact serial winner Jose Mourinho will have on Real Madrid. On the face of it this looks like his toughest task yet, what team and manager can stop the Catalan juggernaut from winning the league again? Barcelona have made two signings this summer with versatile Brazilian Adriano Correia joining from Sevilla and not forgetting Spains World Cup goal machine David Villa.

As mentioned previously Cesc Fabregas is also a target for Barcelona, the prospect of Puyol, Pique, Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Messi and Villa all linking up is frightening and must be giving Mourinho sleepless nights. Real Madrid themselves have also been busy this summer signing German World Cup star Sami Kheidra, Argentine Angel Di Maria and young Spainsh sensation Segio Canales.

There is no love lost between Mourinho and Barcelona, this goes back to the Chelsea/Barcelona Champions league clashes where Drogba was controversially sent off at the Nou Camp and Chelsea lost the game 2-1. The backlash from this match was so fierce that Swedish referee Anders Frisk quit the game after receiving death threats! With Mourinho you will be guaranteed entertainment, not from his style of football but from his press conferences – the classic comments about eggs and omelettes always manages to raise a smile!

Mourinho will be sure to play mind games and pile the pressure on to Barcelona at any opportunity possible, and the law of averages suggest it could be Madrid’s title this year but it’s close to call to make any confident prediction. One thing is for sure, if any manager can lift a team above Barcelona its Jose Mourinho.
