It was Tottenham Hotspurs first forray into the Champions League this week as they travelled to Germany to face Werder Bremen. The first 40 minutes went according to plan, racing into a 2 goal lead but Bremen fought back and clinched a 2-2 draw. I think Spurs fans would have taken a point before the game and given the fact Inter drew 2-2 with Twente they will be more than pleased. It was bizarre that the Spurs boss Redknapp who seemed more agitated than usual after the game, an 8 on the twitch-o-meter.
Redknapp was asked by reporters after the game if this was a lesson, Happy Harry replied with disgust.. “Nah, nah I didnt learn any lessons at all today, no. What lessons can I learn cos they scored, what can I do? People are always talking about lessons, what can they learn from today. Is this a lesson in Champions League football? No.. It was a game of football, we were two nil up and they scored. It happens down ‘ackny marshes, what can you do?” It’s obvious Redknapp is feeling the pressure this season, and not for the first time as Rob Palmer found out.
Its been a testing couple of weeks for Spurs, only picking up one point from games against Wigan and West Brom and now letting a two goal lead slip in the Champions League and it appears to be getting to Harry. Wolves at home next wont be easy, I recall Spurs losing this game last season and thats followed by the Carling Cup game with local rivals Arsenal. As much as it amuses me to see Harry get his knickers in a twist from time to time I fear that by the time they fly out to Italy to face Inter Milan on 20th October Harry could have had a full on meltdown.
