Berba and Bony Ruin my Weekend

It was tough enough sitting through yesterdays match, watching the mancs beat us 3-2. Then today I woke with renewed optimism for Slavia Prague – albeit slightly depressed from Berbabtovs hat-trick. It would be the first league derby I would go and watch between Slavia Prague and Sparta Prague, Sparta fresh from a 3-2 victory against Italians Palermo. Ironically on the same night Slavia would have a book signing with the Vladiator (Vladimer Smicer), oh what slavia would give for some of Smicers guile right now.

I arrived early for the game, a good hour before kick off, enough time to soak up some pre match atmosphere and admire the cracked window in the 1905 Bohemians fanshop window. Nothing says “I hate groundshares” more than a smashed clubshop window, shortly after the Sparta fans were getting a police escort into the ground, promptly throwing till receipts (a whole roll) looks worse in the flesh.. at the slavia fans. The Slavia fans responded by throwing the roll of paper back, the police presence was quite immense, almost outnumbering the fans you would see at The Synot Tip Arena on a league match with say Mlada Boleslav.

The game was nip and tuck, both teams not creating much and then Trapp stole in a the back post and gave Slavia the lead, much to the delight of the home fans. It was a much-needed tonic for a Slavia side that has been struggling, their formation is almost a 4-6-0. The lack of a striker is painful, almost makes me want to don the puma kings and hit the back of the net myself. The second half saw Sparta come back into the game, an equaliser by Kadlec on 63 minutes almost felt as painful as Berbatovs overhead kick yesterday. Somehow you just knew that Sparta would go on to the win the game.

Up step Bony Wilfred, the very striker that I have vilified since my first visit to Slavia Prague. The Sparta striker looked shocking during the Czech Cup 1/4 final i watched at The Synot Tip Arena back in April, completely anonymous. I told everyone I knew that Bony Wilfred was a waster, a complete numpty. But he has made me eat my words, two goals inside of a week has made me feel very sheepish.

Personally, its been a horrible few days as a football fan. Still, there is always the cricket?
