Man Utd 3-2 Liverpool

The dust has settled on yesterdays game and the defeat to Manchester United still depresses me. Avoiding the league table for the next few weeks is a must for Liverpool fans, the depressing of sight of 16th place is not a good look. The performance was decent yesterday, I felt the 1-0 scoreline at half time was a tad harsh as we had contained United reasonably well. And at 2-0 I felt it was game over, but thanks to Torres and Stevie G we found a way back into match. The United defenders were so worried about Torres they bundled him over twice with Gerrard scoring from the resulting set pieces.

The script was set, Gerrard on two goals and Berbatov on two goals, you just knew someone would be taking the match ball home. As John O’Shea sent a ball into Liverpool box with minutes remaining I was slumped in my seat as Berba rose highest to head home the winner. Losing a match 3-2 after making a comeback from 2-0 down hurts,  even more so when you are playing at The Theatre of Tourists. If im honest, United deserved their win, and Berba’s second goal was outrageous, unbelievable. For Liverpool, Stevies free kick was delightful, the celebration of kissing the camera lense was reminiscent of the 4-1 hammering we gave the mancs a couple of years back, shame it wasnt a similar outcome yesterday.

The match threw up more questions for Liverpool, why sign Poulsen? What does he add? Why play Maxi Rodriguez, I have never seen him have a stand out game for Liverpool, never. What happended to Meireles hair? Im sure he had a full head of hair during the World Cup for Portugal? His hairline has receeded quicker than Liverpools defence at set pieces. Still, as fans, we have to look at the bigger picture. The fixtures so far have been cruel and Torres has yet to click into form, Joe Cole was only made two appearances in the league and Roy will need time to stamp his style onto the team.

Its just a shame we had to play United so early in the season, we could have beaten them a few months down the line. We will have to wait until March 5th when we will exact revenge for yesterdays defeat. Im sure we will get there, its just gonna take time and patience.
