Well, the title of this post is a lie.. but these statistics are definitely not made up, they are straight from the horse’s mouth. As I have nothing better to do a Wednesday evening I have been browsing through UEFA Champions League Midweek stats pack, thanks to Tron9 for pointing me in the direction of this statistical beauty. Seeing as I have to wait until Thursdays to get watch LFC in Europe I thought I would share a few gems from the UEFA archive.

Youngest Ever Goal Scorer in the Champions LeaguePeter Oforiquaye (Rosenberg 5-1 Olympiakos) 17 years 195 days old. It might not have been a good night for Olympiakos as they got humped 5-1 but young Ghanaian striker Oforiquaye wrote his name in the UEFA record books.

Fastest Hat-Trick – Mike Newell 9 minutes (Blackburn 4-1 Rosenberg Dec 1995). This stat is an absolute beaut, Mike Newell must be making a killing from the after dinner circuit recounting the tales of Blackburn Rovers in the Champions League in 1995. It’s shame his managerial career wasn’t quite so impressive, just ask the fans of Hartlepool, Luton and Grimsby.. ahem.

4 goals in a match – Dado Prso (Monaco 8-3 Deportivo Nov 2003). This match was an absolute goal glut, 11 goals in total and 4 of them scored by the Croatian Dado Prso, I remember Prso banging them in for fun for Monaco and then moving to Rangers shortly after in 2004 and terrorising the Scottish defenders. Even more impressive was the fact this four goal haul was scored in just 23 minutes!!

Most Appearances in UEFA Club Competitions – Paolo Maldini (174 games!!) The ever young Paolo Maldini has played a staggering amount of games for AC Milan in European competition, 174 games.. which 27 games more than his nearest rival Clarence Seedorf. Another name I noticed on the list is Jamies Carragher who has played 129 games for Liverpool in Europe, not bad Jamie lad!

I will leave it there for now, but for those who are interested in endless amounts of stats then check this link here or even better is the link for the Uefa Press Pack – which had a ridiculous amount of information. I was gonna mention the highest winning margin in a Champions League game, but maybe another time.
