Liverpool v Blackpool

Liverpool are in desperate need of 3 points this weekend, they face Premier League new boys Blackpool on Sunday at Anfield. I can imagine that the Blackpool playersand fans are relishing this game and in particular the seasiders boss Ian Holloway, everyone knows the mess Liverpool are in after their recent performances and results but this is one game that Roy Hodgson dare not drop points.

No disrespect to Blackpool but the reds should win this game, and win this game well. Torres will be looking at the Blackpool defence and thinking goalfest, Joe Cole should also be looking to have a standout game and inspire Liverpool to victory. After all the euphoria of the summer signing of Joe Cole he needs to start producing the performances we know he is capable of, it would be nice to see other players step up to the plate and start producing as well. Im sick of all these comments Liverpool are too reliant on Gerrard and Torres, its same for any club (Fabregas, Nasri – Arsenal. Rooney, Scholes – Man Utd).

Ian Holloway has already made his intentions clear this season that he is going to attack teams, regardless of the quality of the opposition, which is an admirable theory albeit slightly naive. The likes of Charlie Adam and Luke Varney will prove to be tricky customers on Sunday and the team spirit Holloway has at Blackpool means they will never give up but over the 90 minutes Liverpool will, hopefully be out of sight and we can put all of this negative press behind and concentrate on climbing the league.

It should be an entertaining game on Sunday and I hope the fans at Anfield don’t get on the players back if it takes a while to break through Blackpool, an early goal is crucial for the home side as nerves will creep in and Blackpool will sense they could nick something. I hope im writing a new post on Monday with Liverpool on 9 points, instead of the paltry 6 points they have collected up to now.

On a separate note, please check The Home of World Football – In Bed With Maradona, its great site with a wonderful collection of writers! My latest piece on the meltdown at Slavia Prague is now up.
