Newcastle sack Hughton

Amazing scenes at Newcastle today, Mike Ashley sacked manager Chris Hughton after their 3-1 defeat to West Brom on Sunday. I guess 11th place is not enough for some owners, its a crazy decision and one that alienates Ashley even further from the Toon fans. The official line from the club was “Regrettably the board now feels that an individual with more managerial experience is needed to take the club forward.”

Its a disgraceful way to treat any manager, but this is a manager who got Newcastle promoted in style last season by winning The Championship by a country mile. This season was always going to be tough, yet Hughton masterminded wins over bitter rivals Sunderland 5-1 and beat Arsenal at the Emirates! Hughton must have known he was a dead man walking when no long term contract was offered. But what did Hughton have to do to keep his job? Its an absolute disgrace and I hope Hughton speaks to the LMA and takes Ashley to court for unfair dismissal.

Its just another chapter in the Mike Ashley circus, its one terrible decision after the next for Ashley. I was just starting to change my opinion on the man, he had been relatively quiet and humble last season. Letting Hughton and his team go about their work, this season Newcastle have been a bit unpredictable but they sit in 11th place, yet Ashley decides to sack the manager!!

I don’t hold out much hope that his next appointment will be any better, scan your eye through the managers he has already appointed. Joe Kinnear, Kevin Keegan, Alan Sherar and Chris Hughton. The only success has been Hughton! The usual names have been banded about as replacements, Alan Curbishley, Alan Pardew and Martin O’Neill. Its a strange one to predict, what exactly are Newcastle and Mike Ashley looking for?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Ashley was thinking of giving his mate King Kev a call and see if he wants the job back? Personally, I think Sam Allardyce could be in with a shout, oh wait a minute…
