The Premier League season so far has been remarkably unpredictable. With 10 games to go, only 6 points separate 10th to 20th place in the league. You would be hard pushed to predict the relegated trio come May. West Ham who have looked woeful all season are finally starting to play, smashing 5 past Burnley in the FA Cup, then steam rolling Liverpool 3-1 in the league. Wolves and West Brom are also picking points and sucking in the teams above them.
Despite all of Blackpools heroics this season, they are still very much in the frame to go down. Their most recent success was a bizarre 3-1 win over Spurs, who themselves were fresh off a victory in the San Siro. It just doesn’t add up!? Blackpool have also taken 6 points from Liverpool this year, as much as it pains me too write that, but they were 6 fully deserved points.
At the other end of the table, Chelsea have been stuttering along like a Gareth Gates audition, yet somehow mustered up a second half performance to beat leaders Man Utd 2-1. Which incidentally was a dream result for me as a Liverpool fan, Utd lose, Vidic sent off and Torres still firing blanks for Chelsea, the only thing I had to smile about this week.
The season is coming to a head nicely, Liverpool entertain Vidic-less United this Sunday at Anfield. Could we be seeing the first outing as Carroll and Suarez as a partnership for Liverpool, lets hope so. Both teams are desperate for a win after forgettable results last time out. God forbid and should Liverpool win, this would hand the initiative to Arsenal in the title race. Are Arsenal likely to take the opportunity, should it arise? Given Sundays result in the Carling Cup, who knows what Arsenal will end up doing this season.
It would take a brave man to predict any of the 20 places available in the League. Let alone who will European trophies, the Champions League final will have extra spice this year for English sides, as it’s being held at Wembley. While, im enjoying Torres lean spell for Chelsea right now, I have a nagging thought at the back of my mind he could be in different form come May, should Chelsea make the business end of the competition it could be Fernando who has the last laugh at his critics.
But the way the season has gone so far, could Copenhagen score 3 at Stamford Bridge? Nah, more chance of Ashley Cole bringing a gun to work and shooting a team-mate… Oh, wait a minute…
